Massive MIMO is using beamforming as one of its main and most important functions, in order to compensate the expected pathloss on mmWave technologies and maximize SINR for cell edge users. Beamforming is a special technique implemented mostly on Phased Array antenna technology. The purpose of this document is to demystify the basic principles behind the adaptive smart antennas for mMIMO, as a preliminary phase before our next future document on Direction of Arrrival (DoA) techniques in mMIMO receivers.
